In the old days of robust independent book-selling, the BEA was known as the ABA: not the former American Basketball Association, but the American Booksellers Association. Although I met many bookstore owners, a few authors, and no athletes at ABA, I was quite honored to direct Chuck Berry to the men’s room in 1988.
